What does eLearning mean to me as a teacher?

eLearning can broaden your approaches to teaching, not replace what you already do in the classroom or workplace but add to how you practice. eLearning is about using technology in teaching and learning, in anyway that suits you and your students. You get to choose what tools you may want to use and feel confident in using. It is also important to keep in mind that eLearning
  • should not be used like distance education in the sense of allowing you to teach larger groups simultaneously
  • must not be used as electronic book, but these books and the Web are a powerful background library
  • does not have to be Hollywood quality multimedia but designed to engage and stimulate learning

Web 2.0 has changed eLearning in ways we could not have envisaged a short while ago, it has given teachers the tools to empower them to use technology without the need for technologists who often prevented teachers from having any control. This lead to frustration and often teachers gave up. Now I am seeing a new enthusiasm and belief in how technology improve the learning experience and expand possibilities. The future is exciting.
